WHAT IS THE NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS PROGRAM?
Narcotics Anonymous is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. We are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. There is only one requirement for membership, the desire to stop using. We are not interested in what or how much you used or who your connections were, what you have done in the past, how much or little you have, but only in what you want to do about your problem and how we can help.
HOW IT WORKS AND WHY - TRADITION 1
[We] share an equal membership in NA and we all have an interest in maintaining the unity that underlies its [NA’s] common welfare…The importance of unity encourages our groups to look beyond their own little worlds to the common needs of the worldwide NA Fellowship…With an attitude of open-mindedness, we seek to understand other perspectives…When we work to ensure the vitality of NA, we’re not working just for ourselves but for those yet to join us. . . Our ability to survive as a fellowship and to reach others depends on our unity...Our sense of belonging is closely related to our degree of commitment to recovery in NA...With that strong commitment, we are able to carry the message of hope that will support us all in our recovery - Pg 125-126; Pg. 128-129, Pg. 131
